He was both the lantern and the lamb
He was the light
Clothed in a dusty frame
That still shone brightly
In spite of the darkness surrounding him.
He was both the lantern and the lamb.
The earth could feel it
Something unearthly was born
The shepherds knew it and fell to the ground
In worship of their Great Shepherd.
He was both the lantern and the lamb
Though spotless and innocent
He obediently went to the place of slaughter
While serenaded by mockery and laughter
He still shone the path to the Father.
He was both the lantern and the lamb
Men could not fathom it
Logic could not explain it
How a dusty lantern shone brightly
When its blood, they had drained on the cross.
He was both the lantern and lamb
The devil was checkmated
In a game of chess
Where he thought he had captured the king
If he only knew, that was the King of kings.
Nature was perplexed
It spat out this divinity that did not belong to its dustiness
The light in the darkness, the lamb amongst wolves
Indeed, he was both the lantern and the lamb
And for your sake, He came to earth.
