Me, My and Mine

We’ve reached the 13th day of the A-Z blogging challenge which means we’re halfway already! Awesome! Churning out contents everyday is crazy! There are some days when I’d blankly stare at my screen and not have what to write but God always intervenes! Thank God! 😊

MI think my favourite letter is M because that’s my name 😃 Plus there are quite a number of topics that start with M. Anywho, I’ll be talking on ‘Me, my and mine’ *dusts off English textbooks and picks up glasses*

Me- used by a speaker to refer to himself/herself

My- of/belonging to me

Mine- refers to a thing or things belonging to the speaker.

I can hear you say “Okay M, cut to the chase- I don’t need any more English lessons.” My bad!

Yeah so ‘Me’;Selfishness takes root from this word. It’s all about me, I’m ‘self made’, it’s all mine! Just a few examples of sentences which have selfish indicators. (You know, like a ‘self-radar’ you can tell when one is selfish).

TBH, I’m pretty selfish myself and highly possessive with a big ‘MINE’ written all over ‘my’ stuffs. My admittance to that is because God has been pointing me towards it. I can sit here and tell you man is inherently selfish, so I have every right to be. But this only negates the work of transformation Christ has done in us. ‘The old things are passed away and all things become new (2 Cor 5:17)’ So why do we cling to selfishness as though our lives depend on it?

When you think only about ‘me’, everything you do will be in pursuit of ‘my’ objectives by ‘my’ abilities and whatever you attain will be seen as ‘mine’. I hope you got that, because that’s key.

A ‘me’ person who thinks only of themselves would seek to achieve their ‘my’ goals and dreams by their ‘my’ abilities in order to get stuffs they can boldly tag as ‘mine’

I hope I haven’t lost you. Just take it in slowly.

A ‘me’ centered mentality is destructive and could lead to serious depression when the ‘my’ plans don’t work out ‘my’ way. Or you could end up in sadness when the things that are ‘mine’ are stolen or destroyed.

So what’s the remedy?

Take the focus off ‘me’ and put it on God. We are sure there is no shadow of turning with Him. His yes is yes and His no is no. He’s not gonna be political with you nor will He deceive you. So make it about Him.

Then begin to pursue ‘His’ goals and plans. FYI, don’t think for a second it will be some invisible transaction ’cause He’s gonna ask you to do stuffs for people that would pinch you. He will work on your pride and ego.

Instead of ‘mine’ it will be ‘ours’. So don’t frown when He tells you to give someone that new dress you got or that money you were stashing in the bank. Not even that plate of food would be ‘mine’.  Notice I said ‘ours’ because God wouldn’t be possessive of your material things in order to use them for Himself. The shared partnership is so you have enough for yourself and enough for others. He understands when that money in your pocket is all you have and He won’t ask you to give it away to spite you. He will ask you to give it away so you receive something more. Which still isn’t solely yours.

I know this is mind racking! It is for me as I type away on my phone this rainy morning.

When you shift the focus from yourself to God, you’re also opening yourself up to men. As you pursue God’s heart, you will find yourself doing things for people or serving in ways you never imagined! Even if you’re not a talker, God may just nudge you to talk to someone on the bus or wherever and that in itself could be lifesaving.

And when you start making profit from all the things He has taught you to do, don’t for one moment think it’s all for you (like that fool in the Bible). He will open your eyes to needs around you and you will find yourself giving away all you got.

Best part? You will be fulfilled if you obediently follow His instructions (Isaiah 1:19). You will go to bed with a smile across your face every night even if you have nothing in your account. Why? Because you know God’s got you.

Life is For Living

Question for the day:

If you had one week to live, what would you do??

My answer:

*Tell my loved ones I really love them

*Go skydiving or mountain climbing

*Spend all my savings on travelling to new countries

*Forgive- even the most grievous things anyone can do to me

*Invest more time and resources to Kingdom service

*Write and publish a book

*Fall in love

*Travel by sea

*Go on one last rollercoaster ride

So many things to do in a week; I know right! There’s a lot more on that list, I just tried to summarise it for the purpose of this post. Some of the items on the list are hilarious. Others seem unattainable in a week. But what does this mean? Would these things make me happier and more fulfilled? Honest answer, yes! I can imagine how ‘alive’ I would be while skydiving or travelling. Imagine how happy I would be if I forgave so much, spent more time in Kingdom service or telling my loved ones I love them and truly mean it.

I can imagine my life when I finally begin living.

Some of us wait until death to start living. We wait for ‘our least days’ to live our ‘best years’. So what will be read at your funeral? “She was a good girl who lived a routine life of work-home-church-repeat.” Who touched how many lives?

Life is for living. And truly living is beyond ourselves. We live for others; we live for assignments bigger than us; we live to put smiles on other people’s faces, to help lift the load from the elderly, to feed and clothe the needy and provide shelter for the homeless.

I can’t emphasize it enough; life is beyond you and your personal needs and mundane tasks. It’s far beyond that! How many lives do you reach in a day? What impressions do you leave in the hearts of onlookers? What little change do you make every day to the environment you find yourself? DO you leave it better or worse?

Life is for living. Go on that mountain climb, take that world tour you always wanted, eat that new food, read that book you always wanted to, call up your loved ones and tell them you love them, don’t be afraid to love and be loved.

You are not just a statistic. You’ve been given life- live it to the full! Remember living life to the full doesn’t involve engaging in destructive habits but opening your life to the needs around so others can be blessed through you. Living life to the full also means taking care of that one life- do what makes you happy, pursue your dreams and passions, have fun, make others happy, don’t overwork, have ‘just because’ moments to chill out. At the end of the day, You Only Live Once (YOLO)

Kirk Franklin

Letter K is definitely for Kirk Franklin, one of the dopest gospel artists I know! 😊

I grew up listening to Kirk Franklin’s songs. I still remember choreographing some of them as a kid. Some 20 years down the line, I’m still intrigued by his songs and how God has kept him relevant.

Growing up then, I knew all the lyrics to ‘Revolution’ and some other songs. We had tapes back then and they would come with this folded paper that had all the lyrics. Dang! I feel quite old remembering that. 😁 (shout out to all the 90s kids) tape

I literally grew up to almost all his songs. ‘Cause I remember listening to them as a kid, as a teenager and now as a young adult.  Dude! Are you my ‘fairy-god-father’ or something? *thinking out loud* 😃

The other day on BET, I was watching the ‘Celebration of Gospel’ where Kirk Franklin presented some songs from his last album. He didn’t look old and worn out. He was still jumping and dancing all over the place! It’s amazing! At 46, he’s still really awesome!

While for me, I do a little thing and I feel tired and worn out. I face a bad break and I coil up at the curb, washing my face with tears while life passes me by. How pathetic! If people twice my age are still crazy about God, what excuse do I have?

Praising God shouldn’t only happen when things are rosy and the sky is blue. We should be able to thank Him when it seems like there’s absolutely nothing to be thankful for- because, there is! There’s always something to be grateful for.

Another reason why I really love Kirk Franklin’s songs is the honesty in them. He writes some really deep songs for the brokenhearted as well as some really cool songs for those whose spirits are high.

I still have some songs from his last album ‘Losing My Religion ‘ on repeat. You have no idea how much songs like ‘My world needs you right now’ and ‘Pray for me’ helped me through the bad days. (You should check out that album if you haven’t).

I bless God for his life and the lives of all the artists who show that gospel music is not ‘boring’.😉

Just Friends

Hi guys!

It’s day 10 of the A-Z blogging challenge! *whispers* I think April is really slow 😖  J

So yeah, I’ve always wanted to write about the ‘dreadful’ friend zone but I’ve been unable to pull my thoughts together for a while.

What is it about the friend zone that makes it so dreadful? In order not to assume everyone knows what the term means, here is what it means;

Friend zone: this is when a person develops romantic feelings for someone, but the other person only sees the relationship as just being friends- Urban Dictionary

I usually joke and tell my friends my ‘friend zone’ is like a car park with different floors. The higher the level of zoning, the harder it can lead to anything. Lol.

frienship level

I’ve zoned and I have been zoned. Can I get a witness? 😃 However, it’s one thing to zone and say ‘hey, I’m sorry I don’t feel the way you do, can we just be friends?’ And it’s another thing to be on the receiving end. Maybe he knows you have a crush on him but he rather throws the line ‘we are just friends‘. Just friends?! Are you kidding?  (that’s my expression right there- picture below)friends

I don’t like the phrase ‘just friends’. Come on! Being my friend is not ‘just’. It takes a whole lot of persistence and endurance! To be there when your friend needs you. To love them even when you don’t feel like… To be honest, I’m not a pro in the friendship world but I’m really grateful to all who have taught me how to be a better friend.

I saw this picture (below) a while back on Instagram and I could totally relate! There’s nothing as sweet as seeing a good looking brother, witty with a good sense of humor that also fears the Lord and worships Him in total abandon *already daydreaming* But there is also nothing as sad as being ‘friend zoned’ by ‘the one’ *sobs*new church

But this right here hit me so hard and changed my perspective (picture below):ready

I couldn’t agree more with this! Be friends until you are ready. Besides, not all the people we meet in life are ‘the one’ or even meant to be dated. Some even call this testing the waters. Hello! You only get to marry one person, so what’s the need of having complicated feelings for everyone you come across? *reality check hun*

I know I have my thoughts scattered everywhere in this post but I’ll wrap up with this; there is nothing wrong in being just friends. Stay friends until you’re ready. Stay friends until you’re certain he/she is really ‘the one’. And when it doesn’t work out, still stay friends. Good friends are hard to find so cherish the ones you have!

Got any funny/sad friend zone stories where you zoned or were zoned to share? Please share! 😀

Lots of love,

The ability to create pictures in your mind- Oxford Learners dictionary

It’s absolutely amazing how the mind can conjure up images; images of things seen and unseen. I’m always awestruck when I watch a really good movie, albeit fictional. I believe it takes a very imaginative mind to come up with such characters, scenes and stunts.

I spent the most part of my weekend on a movie marathon- it’s been a while I did that. Some other days I can’t seem to finish a movie in a day. This day was different because I watched five different movies on the spot. Yeah my eyes almost popped out at the end of the day from being exposed to so much light from the TV screen-but I digress.

mad max

I watched Mad Max; fury road again. The first time I saw it, I wasn’t really into in. But this time was different. I noticed all the creativity put in play. I couldn’t even recognise Charlize Theron even if she stared me in the face- I think it was finally at the cast I found out she played the lead female role *face palm*

Anywho, I’m not sure I’ve got a lot of Mad Max fans but you just have to applaud the creativity at work in that movie. Did you see their skin? It must have taken a lot to make them look so spooky and slightly irritating. All it took was for someone to imagine it! I’m pretty sure it did not come out exactly as the creative director had in mind but even so, it’s really creative!

There is no limit to the imagination of man! You do need to exercise this part of your mind from time to time. Don’t get stuck in the real world. So what if it doesn’t exist? Still picture it in your mind. The imagination is like a TV screen where you play all sorts of images. It is very important to filter what we imagine, however. For it is the things that come out from man that defile him, not the things he takes in.

There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. – Mark 7:15 (NKJV)

Be mindful of your imaginations! Yes, there are no limits to the imaginations-that’s why you need to put some reins on it lest it runs wild and free. Lucifer must have had a very imaginative mind as well. He could picture himself being God and ruling over the world. This caused him his downfall. The dude didn’t even get to talk about it before God knew it- shows you how much God pays attention to our thoughts and imaginations.

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ –Isaiah 14:12-14 (NKJV)

God has blessed us with powerful imaginations to create stuffs, to add beauty and value to His creation. In whatever sphere of life you find yourself, you can always create mental pictures and seek ways to bring them to life. If you can see it, you can achieve it.

As I said earlier, be mindful of your imaginations. Lust, covetousness, envy etc. are some of the things that can be expanded by the imaginations- please be careful.

I hope you imagine new things today and the rest of your life as you create new realities for yourself! New realities that would add value and beauty- not destroy and deprive others.

It’s always my desire that you live victorious lives!

Happy Endings

HIf you know me well, you’d know I believe in happy endings! People like that are usually called dreamers or idealists or a bunch of other descriptive words in the dictionary.
I love watching romcoms (romantic comedy) because they give me the happy endings. They portray the fairly tale ‘and they lived happily ever after’. These movies leave me dabbing my eyes or day dreaming of prince charming riding a white Porsche (as a horse will look odd)
But reality wakes me up from my dreams every now and then. Reminding me that such happy endings can’t be easily found in the real world. You’d see a couple so deep in love and some years down the line, they divorce. That sucks! I can’t boast of having any happy ending chapter in my life either. So is it just an illusion.
Of course not! There is a happy ending. One that entails being transformed to a different body. I kinda see myself in sparkly skin or plain glitters all over. A happy ending that entails us being united with our Father. No more will He be invisible to us. We will see Him face to face and talk and laugh and praise! Oh my! Plus, there will be a lot of feasting and celebrating. We wont even cry anymore or get sad or feel pain! It’s going to be legen….
Wait for it…

Wait for it…

Wait for it…

Its going to be legendary! I wouldn’t want to miss that for the world. So no matter what life throws at you, smile because you know your mansion with streets of gold awaits. 😊 I look forward to having you as my neighbours!

Happy weekend!

Flowing from F, I couldn’t leave the topic of grace open ended.

I had previously described grace as a gift derived from bloodshed (1 Pet1:18-19). Most of us are also familiar with the definition of grace as unmerited favour. Grace is the gift of God to us.

Why grace? Why couldn’t the world continue following some laws and expressing how good they were based on their strict adherence to such laws? There you have it! Men continued to falter because they couldn’t do it all. So God, being so merciful and also noting that the blood of bulls and lambs weren’t enough had to send His only son down for us. On a lighter note, can you imagine us leading a row of sheep to church on Sundays to obtain forgiveness for all the sins we committed? It would definitely look like a farmhouse!

Knowing we couldn’t fulfil the laws by ourselves, Christ came and fulfilled the laws. How could He? Despite human constrains? Well, need I remind you that NOTHING can constrain Him! Not even death.

By fulfilling the laws and dying on the cross, Jesus presented unto us grace. How sweet the sound! That saved a wretched like me and you.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.- Eph 2:8-9

My name means the ‘Grace of God’ and 23 years down the line, I still can’t fully grasp this amazing phenomenon! Once in a while I even doubt if I’m really saved. You know we humans want to know we got certain things based on our efforts. Days when I do a lot of good stuffs I feel ‘hell yeah! God must be proud of me’ and days when I fall into sin I feel like crap and I can literally see a huge disappointed look across His face. But the truth is He is proud of us all the time. As much as He hates sin, He still loves the sinner.

It’s like a baby who poos in his pants. (I don’t think any one of us likes seeing crap). So yeah I hate the poop but I love the baby! If the baby accepts he pooped, instead of going around stinking and still denying he didn’t poo (it’s crazy how some of us are oblivious to our sins)– if he accepts that he is in a mess and comes back for a cleaning, I would do so by all means! Of course babies accept they are in a mess by crying or just being plain uncomfortable when they crap in their pants. But we could also do that when we sin; cry out to God! He knows we are in a mess but He won’t force us to come for cleaning. He knocks on the door of our hearts and beckons us to come. Only He can clean us from our stinking crap of sin. Maybe remembering how much sin stinks like crap in our pants will help us not to be careless with it. 😉

I cannot do justice to this topic in one post. But you could listen to messages by the likes of Joseph Prince and Creflo Dollar who preach majorly on grace.

Are you still piling up your good works as though they can save you? Are you carrying a stinking pant full of crap (sin)? Accept you are a sinner and turn back to God for cleaning by His blood. Only He can save you.

If you’re someone like that please take a minute to say the prayer below;

Dear Lord, I know I’m a sinner. I ask that you forgive me and cleanse be from my sins. I believe you died and rose for me. I accept you as my personal Lord and Saviour. Come and make my heart your home in Jesus name. Amen

Heaven rejoices when anyone says that prayer in all sincerity and with faith! Go and get rooted in Bible teaching, faith based church. I’m proud of you! And God is too! 😀

Lots of love,
