Darkness surrounded me
Thick darkness enlightened me
I slept in the dark
Woke up in the dark

Darkness embraced me
Like a bosom friend
Singing gloomy tunes
As it lowered me down the pit

Depths upon depths
As deep calleth deep
So my soul cried for you
For just one strip of light

Day after day
Morning turned to night
Mourning moans highlight my day
When will you save me?

My soul goeth down to the pit
Like a sheep led to slaughter
Can’t feel you, can’t see you
Or aren’t you listening?
