rock bottom

You know what’s great about hitting rock bottom, there’s only one way left to go, and that’s up!- Buster Moon

I absolutely love the movie SING and have probably seen it more than five times 😀 The quote above is one that hit me the hardest from the movie. Sometimes we fear failure so bad that we do all we can in order not to fail. But then there are times when failure is inevitable and there we are face down at rock bottom. So what do you do when you hit rock bottom? Cry, get depressed, shut the world out, stop trying, stay off the grid and the list goes on.

While reading The Secret the other day, the writer was trying to explain how we attract the things we think about. If we think thoughts of wealth, we’d attract thoughts leading to wealth and if we think thoughts of loss, we’d attract other thoughts that eventually lead to a loss manifesting. But he went on to give examples of people, who get wealth, lose it and get it back. How they get it back? By letting go of the negative thoughts of loss and thinking about wealth once again.

Sometimes you have to fail in order to let go of the fear of failure. You have to hit rock bottom, to put an end to the thoughts of falling down. And the great thing about hitting rock bottom is that there’s only one way left to go, and that’s up!

I’m learning to think more positive thoughts and let go of the negativity that comes with failing. And the fear of failure isn’t a big deal anymore now that I’ve failed. I’m more like; “Now that I’ve failed, that’s over with, let’s get on to something more successful.” Likewise, don’t allow the negative thoughts keep you grounded to the bottom, learn what you’ve gotta learn and move on. It’s not easy, but I’ve discovered one baby step everyday leads the way.

Have you ever failed or hit rock bottom? How did you get out of it? Let’s discuss in the comment section! Thanks!

Much love,

M.

  1. Any time i hit rock bottom, I retreat into my shell to process what has just happened, then I go again, giving it another try.
I have made it a habbit to always try again, giving up is not an option and I always admit when I’m beaten… Helps me a lot too.
I sometimes forget to take it to the Lord in prayer, but when i remember I always ask for forgiveness.

    1. Oh that’s a good one Adelani. To be honest, when I retreat to that shell, I hardly ever come out again. Lol. But I really like your philosophy and I hope to imbibe it. Thanks for sharing!

  2. When I hit rock bottom, it was my closest friends and professional help that got me back on my feet. I then started making small changes in my thought process. I had to start from scratch on the process of loving and accepting myself. Breathing techniques, as silly as it may sound, helped me a lot of my anxiety and in confrontational situations. I love the movie SING too 🙂

    1. Thanks dear for sharing those tips, I think they’re really helping. Changing one’s thought process could be really daunting, that’s something I’m working on as well. And hey, I like that you like the movie sing too! 😀

  3. I remember that low point in my life and tbh I just wanted to remain there. I felt there wasn’t any point trying to come up only to crash again and it was God, family and friends that kept me going. Surrounding yourself with positives makes everything so much better and also having a belief system. Faith worked for me, faith that it will only get better from then on
You’ve seen SING and I’m here thinking I have to see it cuz my faves are in it.

  4. I’ve learned that with challenges that life brings you either push through it and succeed with God’s help or you fail and God teaches you a lesson from that failure. Either way, I usually am molded into a better person whether I fail or succeed!

  5. Wonderful post Mfon! Honestly, as someone who struggles with OCD, I struggle with negative thoughts a lot. I think the important thing like you said is to not let them run my life. If we learn from the ba, but focus on the good, we can keep moving forward and accomplish our goals!😀

  6. M,
Not always a good feeling when one finds his/herself in such state. It never 🙅a beautiful 😘💞 phase. When I HIT Rock bottom, I find it wasn’t at that point 🎯that I missed it, probably I must have missed it along the path. We as humans can’t let go of that pragmatic nature in us. We’re all pragmatic and as result wants to practicalize what we think is the best way out of it. And many times, it is not always our doing but maybe The Almighty or nature wasn’t on our side. I made up my mind that when I fail; it isn’t ❌the end of the road maybe God is trying to tell me to use another method and wants to teach me good stuff.
One should not dwell long on the emotional trauma that comes along with it. Though easily said than done, What helps me is that I know where my confidence and strength comes from. Some find it difficult to know where their confidence comes from and also think about murky days and how you came or overcome it also helps in coming out of such Grounds. Ione rule I use often “I take a good look at all my pictures 🌆🏜🌠, see how I have developed in phases and how handsome you have grown and tell myself ” MIKE YOUVE BEEN THROUGH ALOT, THIS Can’t hold you bound.
    Nice 👍M.
