Like an earthen vessel

I was delicately beautiful

Some would even say, dainty

Then came the cracks

The endless stretch of thin lines

That showed I was falling apart

My mind, set on autopilot

Beaconed the distressed signal

Thoughts spiraling into a dark vortex

I sought how to fix the cracks

‘No, they couldn’t – shouldn’t, see me like this’

I said repeatedly, frantically

The fractures that got to me finally eased out

Falling into artistic pieces on the floor

From the rubbles of what I once was

I let out a long laugh

Alas! I could never fix myself

Only He could- ‘cause He made me

It was in that moment-

Shattered and alone

That I finally let go of myself

To become all He made me to me

Not just clay

But clay filled with the breath of God.

Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us. -2 Corinthians 4:7

  1. This is so personal and I KNOW this place; it’s the place of broken hallelujahs; the place of so much disorientation where we really try to be good, and “worth it all”, the place where we fall each time we try and crack one more time. The place where we try to rise again but fall, this time, harder than the previous time. The place where broken pieces are carried in God’s hands and we, from those cracks, become beautiful mosaics from a second touch. It’s such a privilege to share this space with someone else who walks the same road as I(we as believers) do 😘
