Have you ever loved someone? Or something? I mean, have you had a favourite pet you held close to your heart? A baby you nuzzled in your bosom? A lover you held hands with? A friend you danced in the rain with? A teddy bear that meant something to you? A parent who had become your hero? 

Have you ever loved just because? No reason at all. Not because they looked good or smelt good. Just because… You can’t pinpoint what it is about them that makes your heart yearn for them so much.

It’s crazy!

But God loves you just because! 

 

I may have to burst your bubble here and let you know you’re not ‘all that’ that God would be crazy about. Your goody two shoes acts aren’t enough to earn His love. But He just loves you. Remember when you were in that mess? He loved you! When you were high on drugs, didn’t even know you slept on the trash bags? He loved you still!

I mean, it is one thing for me to love my cat. But dude! If he were sleeping in the gutter, I don’t think I would love him that much! If he didn’t meet my expectations of a ‘clean and adorable cat’, I wouldn’t love him so. Same goes to humans. We have some high expectations we want them to attain and when they fall short, it’s a little hard to love them. Doubt it? Try loving your friend who is dating the guy she told you wasn’t good enough for you.

But God loves you! God loves me! What the heck have you done to deserve it? Much church going? Memorizing all the scriptures? Having communion every day? No! These acts of worship show our love- but that’s not enough to earn His love!

God loves you! I can’t say that enough. You know how sweet that baby smelt when you cuddled him? God holds you too and smiles while rocking you. Isn’t that amazing?

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5:8

So the next time the devil comes whispering in your ears that you aren’t loved, remind him of the fact that your name is tattooed on God’s palms!  How cool is that?
