Style 101- How to Style Basic Tops

Hey guys!

So just after writing on Zombieland, the Lord blessed me with two free days! 😀 Now I get to stay indoors and find fun stuffs to do (asides eating and  watching TV in my pj). One of such for me is playing dress up and taking pictures. Silly as it may sound, I actually enjoy every bit of it and it makes me happy. Sorry guys, I know this may  be pretty hard to relate 🙂

Remember how we turned boredom to creativity last time, well this time I decided to style some good ol’ basic tops in my closet. The first picture is how how the top naturally looks-plain as a bagel. The other two are the outcomes of accessorizing. Have fun!

Phew! That’s it for now. The key is to play with accessories in transforming a plain ol’ basic top into some super chic outfit.

Got any basic fashion items you would like us to style? Please drop your suggestions in the comments section. Gracias!

And hey, how are you spending the holidays? Hope you’re doing something you love. Remember an idle mind is the Devil’s playground. Don’t give room for the devil to do cartwheels in your life. Keep busy. Be creative!

    God bless you! ❤

    Happy holidays!

‘Do zombies exist?’ I asked in my mind. Or maybe not, ‘cause the lady on the seat beside me in the bus turned to stare at me, her eyes clearly weary from weight lifting the eye-bags.

‘Zombies are real- I guess’. I continued musing as I picked out my smartphone to google it. One of the posts that popped up made a clear distinction; Zombies in the sense of reanimated human corpses are less likely to exist. While, zombies as organisms behaving without a will of their own are more common in nature.

Yeah, that’s the kind of zombie I am- we all are;  I concluded as I glanced at the other 42 passengers on the bus all trying to catch up with the sleep their alarm clocks had rudely awoken them from. I woke up by 4:30 AM in order to catch up with the third bus for 5:30 AM. I wonder who went with the first two buses. Ghosts? Zombies?

I peered out the window to look at all the other cars on standstill- classic Lagos traffic at 6:00 am! We get up so early to go for jobs that keep us ‘Just Over Broke’. Jobs we often have no deep passion for and could easily pass over for the next one with a fatter paycheque.  Waking up so early, mumbling a quick prayer to God on the way hoping ‘He understands’, as He always does. We barely have any time to spend with family, friends or even ourselves! Hanging out with friends is like planning a wedding! Whatever happened to just catching up over lunch and at church meetings? Oh yes! Midweek church meetings. Can’t remember when last I attended one- never get back in time to join one, thanks to traffic. Then how about exercise? Wake me up on a Saturday morning to jog and I’ll punch you in the face-literally!

So yes! Zombies exist. They are all around us. Eyes glued to the screens, involved in an endless race to death. Smartphones are so smart, they make us dumbcan’t even rack my brain for anything when there’s Google. We are all in a race to death, talk about lack of proper sleep; taking pills so we could work all night, unhealthy eating habits; who even has time for homemade meals when there’s fast food to keep you on-the-go? Environmental pollution, noise pollution, work stress, lack of exercise…the list is endless!

Why are we doing this? For survival? More money? Fear of being unemployed? Don’t even get me started on who spends this money when we all die. Come on! Take a break. Pause and smell the roses! What season is it? Try not to check the weather forecast on your phone.

What is our fate? Do we keep maintaining this vicious cycle to death?  For how long? Truthfully, I’m not in a hurry to die and I’m pretty sure you aren’t. So how do we step out of the race?

It’s true that money is always the driving force. The paycheque at the end of the month makes a zombie outta us. With the loads of responsibilities on our feeble shoulders, we just can’t afford to lose that job! And you would probably say something like; ‘Come on M, if only you knew how many people out there are without jobs, you’d understand why I’ve gotta be a zombie every single day…’ Of course! This isn’t a script on being ungrateful with your life and the jobs you have. This is a post on how to live abundantly and not exist like a zombie in this zombie-land we live in.

So just before you cut me off, hear me out; What if the focus shifted? What if we focus more on value adding than money stockpiling? I know that’s a hard pill to swallow especially in this part of the world where we barely have enough to go by-everyone is hustling.

Don’t just go to work ’cause you have to, do something that makes you happy and adds value. Have a sense of purpose and fulfillment!  Imagine how fulfilled you would be when you wake up in the morning excited about the lives you’re going to save and the value you’re going to add. Let the payment be a plus, not the main factor. Remember;

You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Psalm 128:2 (ESV)

I could go on and on but I have to draw the curtain here. Maybe we’d continue this some other day.

So are you involved in a race to death? Are you one of the zombies that wake up early against your will just to make enough money to feed on? Yeah, it’s a zombie land out there but God has paid too much for you to live as one of the clueless zombies. Take a step back to re-evaluate your life and motives. Chillax! Set new goals and choose to be more than a zombie. Choose life and live abundantly!

It’s always my desire that you live victorious lives!

It’s a new week! Don’t forget to show some love.

Love you! ❤

International Literacy Day

Happy International Literacy day!

If you are reading this, be thankful you can read.

And if you are not sure you can write, post a comment to test 🙂

Fact is, there are lots of kids out there who can neither read nor write. You can’t imagine how devastating that would be!

I remember back when I was serving as a teacher a year ago in the extreme North Western region of Nigeria. Most of my students could neither communicate in English nor write in any language. It broke my heart as I spent countless hours trying to understand what they had written down in their scripts as I marked. There was this particular script that had been numbered correctly but everything written was gibberish. I was puzzled. Even if a minion were to write, it’d make a whole lot of sense to me.

I was frustrated then because I couldn’t just put a huge ‘X’ across the script knowing the student must have been helpless.

However, the experience opened me up to the harsh realities of life. Lots of things we take for granted are highly sought after by some other people on the other side. Always live in gratitude for the things you have going on for you, no matter how little.

My suggestions on how you can spend the International Literacy Day

  • Spend some time to thank God that you can read and write.
  • Help a child learn how to read and write today.
  • Give out books and writing materials.
  • Make donations to NGOs involved in promoting literacy.
  • Pray for someone today- it could be the kid begging on the streets or the gardener who can’t speak correctly.

Close with these quotes;

Creating a world that is truly fit for children does not imply simply the absence of war… It means having primary schools nearby that educate children, free of charge… It means building a world fit for children, where every child can grow to adulthood in health, peace and dignity.
-Carol Bellamy

We cannot afford to settle for being just average; we must learn as much as we can to be the best that we can. The key word is education — education with maximum effort. Without it, we cannot be in charge of ourselves or anyone else.
– Bill Cosby

Literacy unlocks the door to learning throughout life, is essential to development and health, and opens the way for democratic participation and active citizenship.

-Kofi Annan

Once again, happy International Literacy Day!

Forsaken Series

Hey guys!

Sorry if you felt I had forsaken you by delaying the release of the final episode.:)

So here is a summary;

Episode 1 was the incidence, centered on how the character lost her parents and questioned her beliefs in God.

Episode 2 was about her decision to go the dark side- night falls

Episode 3 consisted of the diamond heist which she got caught up in

Episode 4 centered on the turn around and new start

At some point in our lives, we feel like God has forsaken us. This happens a lot when we begin to go through trials and experience loss of dear ones. The story went on to reveal the human nature to get back at God. Pay him back in the coin of ‘injustice’ we assume He is dealing with. It takes going back to his word in total repentance to discover that we are mere dust and He is the most high. “Who is man that you are mindful of him?”

If you’re like Lisa right now, thinking you’re too far too gone to be saved, fret not! God’s got you where he wants you to be. I pray you don’t miss the lessons you need to learn in this trial.

I also excerpted a part of Job 38-41 using the Message Bible. Those few chapters struck me hard. We get so self absorbed and expect God to be answerable to us. Asking him for reasons “Why”. Why you lost the job. Why you failed the test. Why the relationship ended. Why you didn’t get the scholarship. Why your loved one died…to  mention a few. In these chapters, God poses questions to Job which he could not respond to. This just goes to reveal the foolishness in man.

So the next time you’re going through that test or trial, allow God to work fully and completely in you. Don’t question Him because His ways are not yours, neither are your thoughts his.

Most importantly, remember you’re not going through the trials because He hates you. You’re going through them because He wants to fulfill His plans and purposes in you. Smile through it for something bigger is on the way. Remember we write examinations to move on to the next level 🙂

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4 (MSG)

It’s always my  desire that you live a victorious life!

Forsaken- Finale

Lisa jumped with a start as she heard her name.

She turned around but no one was in sight. The windows were slamming against each other as the rain began to pour down. She snuggled under the thin sheets but was immediately woken up by the familiar voice. In a flash, she remembered the story of Samuel and how God called him in the night time. She heaved a sigh, knowing it was totally ridiculous for God to be calling her name. He had nothing to do with her-neither did she.

She slept back for a few more minutes, shivering from the cold of the dark cell.

“Lisa.” The voice was gentle, yet firm.

“You are right where I needed you to be. Finally, you can hear me speak.” The voice continued.

She sat up, a little scared.

“Who are you?” Her voice was a mere whisper.

“I am who you say I am.” The voice replied.

She knew without doubt who it was. There had been times she heard the voice back when she still believed in its existence.

“Why did you watch them die when they loved you so much? Why didn’t you stop me from getting hurt and imprisoned?” The questions came flooding in, breaking banks.

The silence followed.

“There you go again. Bailing out from the mess you’ve put me through.” She griped.

Immediately, she was drawn to the Bible she had barely noticed on the stool at the right corner of the cell. Reluctantly, she picked it up and flipped through the soft leaflets. Finally stopping at where the book marker was. She took a deep breath as she began to read the chapter.

Why do you confuse the issue? Why do you talk without knowing what you’re talking about? Where were you when I created the earth? Tell me, since you know so much! Who decided on its size? Certainly you’ll know that! Who came up with the blueprints and measurements?

How was its foundation poured, and who set the cornerstone, while the morning stars sang in chorus and all the angels shouted praise? And who took charge of the ocean when it gushed forth like a baby from the womb? That was me! I wrapped it in soft clouds, and tucked it in safely at night. Then I made a playpen for it, a strong playpen so it couldn’t run loose, And said, ‘Stay here, this is your place. Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.’

“And have you ever ordered Morning, ‘Get up!’ told Dawn, ‘Get to work!’ So you could seize Earth like a blanket and shake out the wicked like cockroaches? As the sun brings everything to light, brings out all the colors and shapes; the cover of darkness is snatched from the wicked – they’re caught in the very act!

“Have you ever gotten to the true bottom of things, explored the labyrinthine caves of deep ocean? Do you know the first thing about death? Do you have one clue regarding death’s dark mysteries? And do you have any idea how large this earth is? Speak up if you have even the beginning of an answer.

Do you know where Light comes from and where Darkness lives; So you can take them by the hand and lead them home when they get lost? Why, of course you know that. You’ve known them all your life, grown up in the same neighborhood with them!

Word after word, line after line, question after question. Lisa’s eyes remained glued on the words that flew out of the book. Awestruck. Tears began to flow as she read on from chapter to chapter.

“Now what do you have to say for yourself? Are you going to haul me, the Mighty One, into court and press charges?” I have some more questions for you, and I want straight answers. Do you presume to tell me what I’m doing wrong? Are you calling me a sinner so you can be a saint? Do you have an arm like my arm? Can you shout in thunder the way I can? Go ahead, show your stuff. Let’s see what you’re made of, what you can do. Unleash your outrage. Target the arrogant and lay them flat. Target the arrogant and bring them to their knees. Stop the wicked in their tracks – make mincemeat of them!

Lisa imploded, falling to her knees, sobbing hysterically. She began to recall details she had neglected as a result of her myopic vision. She remembered the unusual menstrual cramps she had the day she was to travel with her parents. She remembered how she had reacted foolishly by blaming God for the reckless oil tanker  driver that had swerved to the curb where her parents were as against having a head on collision with a School bus full of kids on the next lane. The anger she had held for so long against God began to thaw as ice.

“I’m sorry – so sorry Lord” She kept saying in between sobs.

Her body vibrated as though a defibrillator had been used on her chest, sending shock waves through her veins. Jolted. Her Spirit came alive, as though it had been dead. “Forgive me Lord” She cried from her Spirit in total repentance. Words could no longer come out of her mouth as her lips only opened and closed.

“I have long forgiven you” The voice reassured.

She felt an overwhelming sense of peace wrapping its warm hands around her like a blanket. She couldn’t remember when last she felt this safe. Cozied in the Father’s arms, she slept like a baby.

Two months later…

The criminals had been arrested and Lisa was exonerated with all charges dropped. She had returned back to church with a new sense of belonging.

In no time, she had turned her family home into an orphanage home which she called the “HOME FOR THE FORSAKEN”.

With every new life she saved, she felt more fulfilled than ever.
